Napier Barracks Re-opens

Yesterday, Friday 9th April approximately 50 men have been moved into Napier barracks from hotels around the country. A mere 8 days since the last 13 men were finally transferred out of the camp, after enduring over 7 months there. We expect others to arrive over the coming days.

We were outside Napier all day witnessing the arrival of these men and documenting the horrific far right harassment they have experienced upon arrival.

We are shocked and saddened to learn that the government is sending a new cohort of people seeking safety in to the dangerous disused army barracks that its own report called 'unfit for human habitation’.

Priti Patel promised a more compassionate asylum system following the Windrush scandal, but instead she is doubling down on her model of cruelty.

To treat people seeking sanctuary with dignity and respect has always been vital, but now more than ever, we must fight for it.

We will continue to support the men now detained in Napier over the coming weeks and months, documenting their experiences and assisting them with accessing lawyers to ensure justice and accountability. We need your support to continue this work so please donate using the link in our bio.
